  • Work Week 1 [unit]

Hi! Welcome to CJ420 Seminar Paper. This class is dedicated to ensuring a rigorous paper-based, professional skill-building class. I'm excited to spend the first 7 weeks of the semester with you all.

Things to note: The work week in this class looks different from the traditionally-scheduled courses. Instead of a Monday-Sunday approach, we are taking a Thursday-Wednesday approach. The rationale for this, is I really want to give students the weekend to capitalize on work time since the paper-writing experience is expected to be challenging. Students are expected to use the weekends to stay up-to-date and get-ahead with work, so they can enter into Monday's workdays and following activities successfully.

The first "week" set up on the eLearning page is technically two weeks of class (10 days). After we get through our first full work week (ending on January 18th, things will run more smoothly. All of this information will be reviewed during lecture, so be sure to keep up to date with viewing those!

Also, don't hesitate to reach out to me via email at brownk_3@carolinau.edu. My goal and hope is that everyone succeeds in this class, and I genuinely will help however I can in helping you meet that goal.

By the 18th, students should have:

    • Submitted a research paper topic
    • Set up a Microsoft Teams account with group, held an initial meeting (with meeting minutes submitted), and determined a weekly meeting time
    • Started reviewing sources for final paper project.
