1) Read chapter three in Homiletics and Hermeneutics: Four Views on Preaching
Today (The Theocentric View and the three responses).
2) Discussion Board: Biblically defend your view of the Theocentric View. Two
responses are required: Your original post needs to be at least 150 words posted
by 11:30 PM on Thursday and a second post responding to another student's post of at
least 100 words posted by 11:30 PM Sunday.
3) Read chapter five in Tony Merida’s Faithful Preaching.
4) Read these two posts at drtimwhite.net. EIGHT NEW SIMPLE Steps to Preparing and
Preaching a Sermon and STEP ONE: CHOOSE THE PASSAGE. Submit the percentage
of reading you (100% or 90%, etc) on Saturday before 11:30 PM. The reading includes
chapter three in Homiletics and Hermeneutics, chapter five in Faithful Preaching, and the
two blog posts. Post reading report by 11:30 PM on Sunday.
5) Sermon from Mark (You will be assigned a passage from Mark to preach). You can talk to the professor about another passage. These passages are in Resources.
6) Homework: Read the introduction to Mark from Bible Knowledge Commentary on the NT or Thomas Constable's commentary at netbible.org or any good introduction to Mark as
by D. Edmond Hiebert. Begin to study your passage. Answer the basic Bible study
questions: Who wrote the book? To whom did he write the book? Why did he write the
book? When did he write the book? What is the theme of the Book? How did the author
develop the theme? Post this work in Week One in Homework by 11:30 PM Sunday. I
will grade this assignment. Use netbible.org or preceptaustin.org in research.
7) Participation: All students will be graded on listening to the recorded class lectures and
uploading one-page double-spaced notes by 11:30 PM Sunday. This is part of your
participation grade.
8) Take the quiz, which is based on the lectures. The quiz will be posted on Thursday at 2:00 pm. Take the quiz before 11:30 pm on Saturday.
