Dr. Oviatt received his BA and MA at Piedmont International University. He completed his EdD at Liberty University in July 2023. His PhD at Carolina is ABD. 

 

Dr. Oviatt has served in ministry and leadership roles for over 45 years. He has been married to Denise for 44 years, and they have two adult children.

 

He is an adjunct professor at the Deaf Studies Program at Crown College of the Bible in Powell, Tennessee.

 

Dr. Oviatt is also the Director of the Deaf Studies Program and is an adjunct professor in the DMin and MMin programs at Piedmont Divinity School at Carolina University,

Description

This course provides students with an introduction to basic skills needed to produce and comprehend American Sign Language. Course work includes the manual alphabet, numbers, basic sentence structure and grammar, Conversational Skills skills, and culturally appropriate behaviors. Students learn the importance of facial expressions and non-manual signals as grammatical indicators.
