Leadership and Human Behavior (BUS 680)

Term: 2019-2020 Summer

Faculty

Alexia Pedo Lopes

Hi everyone!

I am very excited to be a new faculty member here at PIU this summer!

I thought I would give you a little bit on my background...

I am currently doing a PhD in Sports Management at the University of South Carolina. Previously, I was in Europe for a few years and I got both my Bachelors and my Masters degrees at KU Leuven in Belgium, both in International Business. However, I was born and raised in Brazil and that is where my family lives.
I am passionate about traveling, hiking, meeting new people and being around different cultures. Volunteering is one of my greatest passions!
I am very enthusiastic about everything I do and, especially, about sports. I have always been very much involved on the sports scenario, mainly motorsports. My brother is a professional Motocross and Supercross rider, so that would be the sport I am most involved with as I always worked as his career manager.

I am always open for a coffee and a good talk -- even if now that would be through Zoom.

Looking forward to meeting you!

Description

A study of how leadership requires effective management of people and a clear understanding of human behavior and social processes. Leaders need to have a good understanding both of themselves and of those whom they will lead. Leaders need to know why people behave as they doin relation to their job, work group, and organization. This knowledge of individuals’ perceptions, attitudes, and behavior enables leaders to choose appropriate leadership styles and managerial practices to increase organization effectiveness and positive human outcomes.
