McMillan, J. (2018), Classroom assessment: Principles and practice that enhance student learning and motivation (7th ed), Pearson.

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is an introduction to educational assessment and practical approaches to classroom assessment. It provides a broad and critical overview of perspectives on theory and practice in educational assessment, mostly focusing on classroom assessment for future teachers.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND ASSIGNMENTS

 

I expect all students in this class to become highly knowledgeable, skillful professionals who are life-long learners and activists for social justice. To demonstrate professionalism as prospective educators, each student should:

 

  • be responsible for submitting assignments in a timely manner and contacting me if they are not able to follow the course schedule for any reasons.
  • work hard on assignments to develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes to be competent, skillful, responsive educators/teachers.

Reading summary and comments:

Every class has a reading assignment. You will summarize it in a critical and reflective way.

 

 

-Every Monday 11:59pm.

 

-Every Wednesday 11:59pm.

5 points for each day reading

- Points will be reduced for late submission

 - Each summary will be a resource for your exams. Be mindful of producing a concise summary with critical comments.

One page for each reading.

Autobiography:

- Personal and professional background, study interests, and goals

- Experiences and thoughts on educational assessment and/or classroom assessment in your education

(memorable moments, critical thoughts, etc.)

Leave your comments on your classmates’ autobiography: interesting points and greetings.

Discussion Post:

Each week, you will leave your thoughts on discussion posts. Topics of discussion will be posted every Wednesday night after class.

This should be a meaningful conversation with classmates.

Due: Every Friday at 11:59 pm.

 

10 points per week:

 

At least two posts on discussion forum should be made: Initial post -- at least 200 words. Second post --at least 100 words.

COURSE SCHEDULE

 

* Every class has its PowerPoint (ppt) slide on 'Resources' tab. Please, read ppt for each day (Day 1-Day 14) along with the class schedule so that you follow all directions of the course. Online class does not mean you do all work at the end of the session. You need to engage yourself in the course work on your own pace everyday/every week. In slides, there are specific directions of activities such as watching videos, reading websites link, etc. Make sure you work on each class day’s ppt. I will upload each ppt Tuesday/Thursday morning (summary is due Monday and Wednesday at 11:59pm).
